Red Clover Leadership

Life on the farm shaped who we are today. We learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and faith. However, it was the horses that shaped us as leaders. The behavior of horses and the herd are rich with lessons that can be applied to leading people and even leading oneself. Through coaching and interactions with horses, people can be transformed. Transformed people can transform organizations and communities.

As the world emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, a different kind of leadership is needed to restore the workforce. Restoration means attending to the individual’s mind, body, and spirit while driving innovation and value in operations. The future will be challenging. Red Clover Leadership (RCL) is passionate about developing leaders with courage, compassion, energy, and an innovative drive. Leaders who aspire to lead like horses.

Why the name “Red Clover”?

There are fond memories from the early days on the farm of the fields blanketed with beautiful red clover. Red Clover is a legume related to peas and beans. It is an important crop generating economic stability, fertile farm soil, and health benefits for humans and animals alike. The Red Clover is viewed as a reliable crop and tolerant to drought. RCL seeks to emulate the crop in producing personal and economic benefits regardless of the challenges posed for those who they engage with. It’s our hope that individuals and organizations will flourish as the Red Clover does.

Red Clover Leadership was founded by Dr. Lori Wightman. Lori has spent her lifetime on farms and working with horses. Professionally, she is a nurse who became a leader early in her career. She has served in various healthcare leadership roles at an executive level. Her doctoral work centered around talent management and leadership development. This work inspired her to become an executive coach and author. She has spent years coaching and mentoring leaders and aspiring leaders.
